Junior News

I am very excited to announce the appointment of former Victorian player Sharon Ruyg as coach of our U15 girls ‘A’ grade squad for 2008. Sharon played for Victoria from junior levels right through to a lengthy period in the senior Vic team, and was also vice-captain of the Australian Country team after returning to regional hockey in her latter hockey playing years. Sharon has terrific junior coaching experience also, coaching at all junior age groups, principally with the West Vic Academy (association rep teams from Ballarat).

Sharon’s youngest daughter Emma (well known to many at FHC through her involvement with Vic junior teams, and her articipation in our Summer Skills Program a couple of years ago) will also be joining our U15 squad. Emma captained the highly successful Country Cobras U14 girls team in last years State Championships, and will no doubt be reviewing mum’s coaching strategies on the twice weekly drives down from Ballarat.

For planning purposes, training will kick off in the first week of March, most likely on Tuesday nights again. It’s likely that we
will need some more U15 girls and boys to help us fill out our three girls teams and two ‘mixed’ teams, so a bonus payment equal to half of your fees (about $80) will be paid to anyone that can recruit an U15 girl or boy to FHC.

Congratulations to the following girls who made the Western Region U18 team Danica Breen, Stephanie Buttigieg, Harriet Negus, Monica La, Ruth Torr, Tess Torr
