At the end of a tough season for the Men’s section we ended up with 1 team in the finals and 2 relegated. Although it doesn’t sound good, there is a lot to look forward to with every team having some exciting juniors that will become better after another years experience at senior level.
I would like to thank all the coaches this year Mark, Hoovey, RJ and Yankee who took the responsibility on Tuesday and Thursday nights to help training run as smoothly as possible. I would also like to thank Leon, David and Brendan for their support in looking after the M2 and M3 teams, not to mention all the managers who gave up their time throughout the year.
As my first year as Men’s Administrator I had so much help which I am very grateful. Lynn Gale for collecting the men’s fees, Greg Hopkins for running the umpire roster, RJ for looking after the role while was away, Karen Veitch for entering the results on sporting pulse, Heather Shaw for the uniforms and Thursday night meals, and last of all a big thanks to Nicole Virtuoso for her help and support throughout the year. Sorry if I have missed anyone but you know who you are……
Get down to the finals and see you all at Presentation night.
SL2 – Position 9th.
For the 1st’s it again came down to the last game of the year to avoid relegation, however this time facing a more difficult task in Essendon who had not lost a game all year. The 10-1 loss meant relegation to SL3 for the first time in 20 yrs. Those narrow losses and draws became costly as 1 more win would have saved them relegation and 2 more pushing for a finals spot. With the ever increasing talent of juniors coming through I’m sure this will be a minor hurdle for us to overcome to work our way back up the grades.
PC – Position 3rd. Preliminary Finals this week.
After finishing the home and away season 2nd and with the double chance in the finals, the 2nds were dealt a crule blow when Yarra Valley put in a protest for their last game and were awarded 3 points relegating the team to 3rd. This set up a do or die final against 4th placed Monash who had beaten them 6-1 earlier in the season. To the boys credit they re-grouped and came out firing to record a convincing 3-0 win, setting up a preliminary final against top side Greensborough for the chance to play off against Yarra Valley in the Grand Final. More importantly a win this week should see them promoted to PB next year. Good luck boys!!!
PD-Position 10th.
A tough year for the 3rds, seeing us relegated to PE next year. With a bit of luck the guys could have pulled off a few wins and maybe drew some of the narrow losses. The extra years experience in PD will be invaluable for next year as the boys will be hoping to push for the finals in PE.
M2W-Position 5th
After a slow start to the season which saw the guys staring down the barrell of relegation for most of the season, the team finished the season strongly and ended up only 1 game out of the top 4. The loss to bottom place Altona earlier in the year turned out to be a very costly one, however in all a great season. This team had some good young players that next year will hopefully make the progression to the 2′s and 3′s.
M3W-Position 8th.
Worked hard all year with a young team and sometimes not a full team and did well to hold the grade, especially after losing the points in a good win in rd 17. With our juniors coming on quickly hopefully we can push for finals next year.
M3N-Position 5th.
Had a very strong year and were desperately unlucky not to make the finals after only missing the finals on goal difference. This team had quite a few juniors who we will look forward to see playing higher up the grades in years to come.
