The girls dominated early going into the wind with a poster in the first few minutes followed by a goal at the 5 minute mark. Without getting complaisant the team continued to play a short sharp game, distributing the ball efficiently and effectively. Monica La came on at the 15 minute mark at CF and scored a goal within 30 seconds – after taking the ball form the half line, beating a number of defenders and the GK.  Monica scored 2 more in close range of the GK and the score was 4 – 0 at half time. Coach Geoff Peacock was impressed with the teams performance and set the challenge to keep the momentum against the wind in the last 35 minutes, and the girls did just that! Singing the victory song with pride.

Metro 2 North (0) lt Melbourne Uni (3)

The two teams battled it out with Footscray conceding a goal late in the first half. At this point the game was definitely winnable.  Plagued by being under attack most of the first half, the girls put together a concerted effort in the second term, but the top team broke through with a superb field goal and a short corner.  With only 11 players available for the game, all girls put in a great effort and came off the field knowing they put in a full game.  Great work from the goalkeeper and center half were the highlights of the match.

MEN

State League 2 (3) def Werribee (1) Goals Javier Telechea 2, Robbie Smith

The game was played at only half the intensity than has been shown previously and after Footscray hit the post 2 twice in the first 15 minutes it came down to a slog against a determined opposition and the weather. Werribee took the lead with a scrappy goal after the Footscray keeper had made 4 consecutive saves which made the Dogs only more determined to fight harder. Two penalty corner conversion by Javier put the dogs in the lead and a third goal by Robbie Smith sealed the match 3 – 1. Not our best effort but a gutsy win against bad conditions.

Pennant C (6) def Altona (1) Goals H Isorena 2, Rico Virtuoso, J Cordes, T Le, S McClean

After a slow start, the team began to assert their authority over Altona, Stuart opened the scoring about 15 minutes in. Relentless pressure on the Altona defense caused a number of turnovers which Footscray capitalised on, scoring 3 goals in 5 minutes the dogs blew them away and had a 5 – 0 lead at half time. Traveling into a strong wind in the second half was going to be a tough job for the boys, particularly after Altona managed to get one back on the score board ten minutes into the second half. Footscray scored their 6th goal through a magnificent 75 meter pass from Greg Hopkins, splitting the eye of the needle – disgonally across the ground through to Rico Virtuoso at right wing. His shot at goal beat a fully outstretched Altona Keeper to score Footscray’s only goal for the half.
