WOMEN
State League 2 (3) lt Yarra Valley (4) Goals E Fithall 2, J Skilton
A disappointing result after the girls were leading 2 – 0 after the first 15 minutes of the game. With a key player being unavailable due to illness, the team’s winning structure from the previous 4 weeks had to be re-shuffled. Yarra were able to gain control of the game and score.
Pennant B (2) drew Camberwell (2) Goals Rachel Brown 2
A terrific result against the to team. Well done ladies – the hard work and effort transform onto the scoreboard and gain great results the last 2 weeks! Keep it up!
Metro 1 North (6) def Doncaster (0) Goals M La 2, N Virtuoso, P Vanveenendaal, H Boomfiled, L Harris
Stand in coach Tung Le was happy with the dominating game played by the girls who converted multiple field and corner opportunities. Doncaster were persistent in applying pressure and the FHC girls played their best when they moved the ball around quickly. The first goal being scored by Harry Bloomfield off our first short corner of the game. The girl in the red scrunchee scored the second during field play and a crowded circle. Monica La scored 2 aggressive goals and almost cherry picked a third – however Leona’s shot went in, Penny scored off another brilliant set of field play! Our defense held strong with little penetration into the defensive circle. This high score will assist their goal difference which may be a vital art of attaining promotion at the end of the season. The only low light was FHC’s valiant captain receiving a ball to the forehead with 10 minutes to go, a brief exposure of bare skin as a playing shirt was whipped off to cover the wound, a hospital visit followed. Thanks to Tung and Penny for brilliant first aid. We all wish Carrol the best and hope nothing too serious!
Metro 1 South (1) lt Mornington (3)
Metro 2 North (0) drew Brunswick (0)
This week the girls had to put in a huge effort against the second place team in the competition in order to hold their place on the ladder. The game started off with both teams putting in high intensity efforts – neither team gave an inch. Chances to score occurred for both teams with Footscray having a number of short corners but were held out by an excellent Brunswick defence. Brunswick had their chance with a penalty flick in the first half, but our GK made a great save which put the team on a high. At half time, the girls knew they were well and truly in the match and kept the intensity going in the second half. More chances to score were had by both teams in the second half, but good defence again kept the ball out of the nets. It was most pleasing to see the young juniors hold their ground against a very physical and determined opposition. Hard to give best players this week as all did their best throughout the match. Well done team.
