Important Junior Parents Meeting
Please note the date Tuesday March 6th on your calendar now. On that night an all-families meeting will take place (prompt 7.00 pm start, 30 min meeting only) to announce and discuss significant changes to the way that the Footscray Hockey Club will operate in the immediate years ahead. Specific details related to the 2012 season will also be announced. In appreciation for what this great Club does for it’s junior members, we need you all showing your support for FHC at this crucial meeting!
Pre-Season Training
Will be done in two phases this year: First and second week of March = trials for Shield (‘A’ grade teams). All welcome that would like to grab an ‘A’ grade spot for the season ahead. All others join in from the third week of March. Starting dates:
‘A’ team trials:
Tues March 6: trials for U17 Girls ‘A’, U15 Girls ‘A’ and U13 Girls ‘A’.
Thurs March 8: trials for ‘Mixed’ teams: U17 Penn, U15 ‘A’, U13 ‘A’, and U11 ‘A’.
Other Teams:
Tues March 20: All girls team players (U17, U15 and U13).
Wed March 21: all U9’s and U11’s,Minkey TBA
Thurs March 22: All ‘Mixed’ teams (U17 down to U13).
Season training times will be as follows but these times may change
depending on coach’s availability.
U13/15/17 girls -Tuesdays 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm (play Friday Night)
Minkey ,U9 and U11-Wednesdays 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm (play Saturday morning)
U13/15/17 mixed – Thursdays 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm (play Friday Night)
Also practice matches will be held on Friday night 23rd March for some
teams and also on the Friday night and Saturday morning of the
following week.
Season begins Friday 13th April,…last Friday night before school
goes back after school holidays.

OTHER INFORMATION
1. Umpire Development
This season we hope to really move ahead with our development of umpires (children and adults) for our junior section. All umpires will be receiving a Fox 40 whistle, rule book, warning cards, score book and pen from the Club, and we will have mentors attending games to give advice and support.
Umpiring is a relatively easy skill to develop, and we encourage all players and parents to consider “giving it a go”. We’ll get you well trained and moving along the path towards formal qualifications.
2. Mouthguards
Mouthguards are compulsory at our Club, both during matches and all training sessions. There are a variety of guards available through sporting goods shops, etc, but if you would like top get a mouthguard tailor made for your child by a qualified dental mechanic (last years price was approx. $65.00), we will have Peter Newton at the Club taking fittings on DATE T.B.A.
3. Uniforms
Junior uniforms are: Shirts / Skirts $35, Shorts $35, Socks $8. U9′s receive a $10 playing shirt.
